Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is practically summer here in stormy south Atlanta. The sun is shining, and pop up thunderstorms are ruining hopes of general aviators everywhere. I can feel the bass pumping, synths shimmering, and guitars strumming to that sweet, sweet disco rhythm building in the air.
As a man of (self described - editor) esteemed taste, diverse range, and white boy swag. One has to take a break from the bountiful pastures of Radiohead and The Smiths to plumb the depths of music made for, and marketed to women.
I have put together a playlist on Apple Music that I will link here, but here’s the highlights with YouTube links.
Top Dog, Magdalena Bay (2023)
I could write many words about this song, but i’ll keep it brief. The vocal stack and the way the synths dance around it in the chorus is nothing short of spectacularFeather, Sabrina Carpenter. (2023)
In a lot of the same ways as the previous song, the vocal stack on a Sabrina Carpenter song are usually the highlight of any of her songs. In a lot of ways this song is the anti-late night talking by Harry Styles. Similar vocal runs and runs about the same musically under the hood but with opposite messaging
Good Luck, Babe! Chappell Roan (2024)
There is one thing men and lesbians have in common, failed situationships with someone who ended up with another man. I really think we should pursue this alliance more because Roan, Justin, and Dan really dialed it in.Bubble Gum, NewJeans (2024)
All the homies vibe with NewJeans.
It goes without saying that transcendent art will reach across markets and penetrate the collective conscious. If you have any songs that you think should be included on this playlist let me know. Sorry I don’t have Spotify. If maybe someone translates it over, put it in the comments and i’ll spread it around.
